Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest and probably the best MCU movie ever made and was the complete package as it had emotion, drama, suspense, humor and hardcore action.
The movie ended in the most jaw-dropping way possible.
Since the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War, it was teased that if Thanos managed to collect all 6 Infinity Stones, he would be able to wipe out half the entire Universe with a Snap of his fingers. First Gamora teased this in the beginning, and then Thanos told Doctor Strange the same thing.
Thanos’ main objective was to bring balance to this universe, and to do that, he was willing to wipe out half the Universe’s population so that the surviving half would not have to live in poverty and can use the resources of the world in the most justified manner. As he puts it “The Hardest decisions requires strongest of wills”.
He ultimately succeeded in collecting the six Infinity Stones scattered across different places in the universe. First, he attacked Xandar and retrieved Power Stone. Then he ripped apart Thor’s ship, killing Heimdall and Loki after getting the Space stone. He killed ‘The Collector’ for the Reality stone and sacrificed his favourite daughter Gamora for the Soul Stone. Afterward, the climactic battles that took place at two different planets against him are one of the most epic sights you would ever get to see.
First, we see the epic battle between Team Iron Man and half of the Guardians at Titan. In exchange for Tony’s life, Strange agreed to give up the Time Stone which was odd since he vowed never to do that and even told Tony that if it came to that, he would choose the Stone. He does tell Tony later on that it had to be done in order to save humanity. After defeating them, Thanos arrived in Wakanda to retrieve the final Infinity Stone from Vision- the Mind Stone. Scarlet Witch was asked to destroy the Stone by Vision as she was the only one who could do it to save half the humanity.
The Avengers in Wakanda faced off one last time against the Mad Titan, and in the end, Captain America was the only one left standing between Thanos and Scarlet Witch & Vision. Then he got pinned down by one of Thanos’s Black Order members. Thanos moved towards Vision and Scarlet Witch to take the stone, and at that very moment, Scarlet Witch had to sacrifice the love of her life by blasting the Mind Stone & Vision along with it.
But Thanos having already acquired the Time Stone, reversed time right in front of Scarlet Witch’s eyes, bringing Vision back to life whom he brutally murders on his own, taking the Mind Stone for himself.
Then, Thor came thundering down with his brand new weapon, Stormbreaker. He was able to strike Thanos right through his heart visibly wounding the Mad Titan while telling him that he will pay for all the Asgardian lives along with Loki’s. But Thanos escapes telling Thor he should have gone for the head instead while snapping his fingers effectively accomplishing his mission.
As the movie progressed on, we got to see the slow effect of what happened after that fateful snap, as the Earth’s mightiest heroes disintegrated one by one into ashes.
The deaths of Bucky, Falcon, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Drax, Groot, Star-Lord, and Mantis left us stunned and speechless. The ones who survived were Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, Rhodey, M’Baku, Okoye and Iron Man. In the end, we see Thanos smiling to himself on a planet, looking at a beautiful sunset.
Along with the surviving Avengers, we know that Hawkeye, Ant-Man & the Wasp have roles to play in Avengers 4. So, with many of the characters dead, it would allow the characters who missed out on this movie to have a more prominent role in the next movie.
Also Doctor Strange saw 14 Million alternate futures to find one outcome where the Avengers would win.
To finally defeat Thanos, the Avengers would have to assemble again, which means Cap and Tony have to put aside their differences and work together. Hence, Tony will be the key to defeating Thanos in the next movie and bring back the ones they have lost.
