On a number of occasions, we have heard Hardy’s name being mentioned as a fan favorite, and now the oddsmakers are contemplating who will be the successor to Daniel Craig. Now the ex-007 has also supported the popular choice. However, is there a realistic chance of this happening at present?
Beginning with Golden Eye, Pierce Brosnan starred as Bond in four films between 1996 to 2002. His last movie Die Another Day is commonly classified as one of the worst Bond films ever in over five decades of the franchise. Still, the actor has a long-term association with the legendary MI6 spy, and his approval of another actor to play the role carries some weight. Brosnan stated this during a recent interview related to the promotion of upcoming film Mama Mia! Here We Go Again. Brosnan was discussing the future of James Bond and the thought of a lady taking on the role in the future, an idea which has gathered steam in the last few years. This is what Pierce Brosnan had to say on the subject.
“Bond is Bond, and you can’t change that. I think a woman could play Bond, but it wouldn’t be James Bond. Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond. He’s very physical; he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man. He’s complained about doing the part because he’s put himself through a lot physically, but he will do the next movie, and then I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it, that’s what makes Bond.”
There is no doubt that Tom Hardy has the physique, charisma, and stardom to nail the role. Everybody knows that. He also has a good relationship with the maker Christopher Nolan who according to grapevine has been associated with a future James Bond film for a while now. If these two come together, it would be fantastic. However, Hardy is already 40-years-old, and he is extremely busy.
Daniel Craig will start filming for James Bond 25 later in 2018, and the Danny Boyle directed movie will release in November next year. Therefore, it would at least be 2020 before Hardy gets the role. That would mean that he will start at about 42-years-old and that’s certainly not the right age to begin playing Bond.
The producers of the franchise might want to opt for someone younger who would be able to stay around for a number of films. Considering the rate of a movie every 2-3 years, it is difficult to imagine that Tom Hardy could indeed be the actor suited to play 007 when the producers prepare to recast. Yet, Pierce Brosnan believes Hardy could be the right choice, and that’s important. The news was shared by Daily Mail.
