DC Comics has recently announced some information regarding the new DC Universe video streaming service.
A Swamp Thing live-action TV series is now in development for the service. An official promo art and the title card for this series is here:
The project is set to be co-written by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman who will be showrunners if this series does get picked up. Aquaman’s director, James Wan is ready to executive produce, with Michael Clear and Rob Hackett co-producing.
The official description is below:
“When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.”
Swamp Thing which was introduced to DC Comics in the 1970s and 1980s, had a pretty weird history and Wes Craven had written and directed a 1982 live-action movie.
There have been many attempts to try and bring back Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing played a huge role in Injustice 2 and an all-new TV show may be what this character needs.
