James Gunn Has Confirmed That Star-Lord’s Grandma Has Met Captain America

The fanatics of the MCU can now put the long-standing mystery to rest as the Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn has now revealed an information which ties up a loose plot thread which has been around since Captain America: The First Avenger.

The director has been asked on Twitter how it was possible for the actress Laura Haddock (Peter Quill’s mother, Meredith) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 to also appear in The First Avenger, a film that had been set in the 1940s.

“That’s Quill’s grandma,” the director had revealed, before jokingly adding “I just made this up.” James Gunn does of course appear to be joking, but that doesn’t stop the revelation from being possibly true. Some fans truly get hung up on trivial ‘mistakes’ like this, and this does offer them an in-universe explanation.

The truth is that Laura Haddock was cast for a very small role in The First Avenger when Marvel did not know that the Guardians of the Galaxy film would actually be made. It now seems that she was the perfect actress to bring Meredith Quill to life.

The continuity of the movies lines up this way with one happening in the ’40s and the flashbacks in the ’80s. This means that Star-Lord’s grandma may have met Captain America.
