Spoiler Warning: If you haven’t seen the Avengers: Infinity War then you are Warned not to read any further. There are Major Avengers: Infinity War spoilers below! Repeat: Major Spoilers ahead. You must return from here.

By the time Avengers: Infinity War ended, audiences had to endure seeing the Earth’s Mightiest heroes fall to their knees. Thanos snatched away the time Stone after it was traded by Doctor Strange in return for Tony Stark’s life. When Thanos came to Earth, he didn’t have to wait long to grab the Mind Stone from Vision, which gave him the whole gauntlet that he had been chasing. Thor nearly defeated Thanos, but, the bad guy teleported out of the harm’s way by using the Infinity Gauntlet. And only seconds after that, Bucky Barnes uttered his last words.

Thanos now has the Infinity Gauntlet, and one snap of his converted half of Earth’s inhabitants into ash, including Bucky. The film paid attention to him as he staggered towards his bestie Captain America, and uttered his last words which made fans recall Captain’s solo movie. Just before he collapsed into ash, Bucky’ gaze met his friend’s, and he asked “Steve?” It was quite a heart-breaking line, but, has been heard before.

We heard it first in 2011 in Captain America: The First Avenger, when Steve saved Bucky from Azzano after his regiment was captured during WWII.

If you remember, Bucky was undergoing the experiment in the original Captain America film, and the new super soldier Steve went to protect him. He found his friend in Azzano, and the first thing Bucky said after being saved was “Steve.” This question became lore among the fans as those who love their bromance have used that dialogue to emphasize on their bond, but, that line had a vastly different meaning in Avengers: Infinity War.

Instead of being the first thing he said, this happened to be what he said just before he died. His last breath was to ask after Steve, and as seen here, fans have been crying out loud over this subtle link to the old film since the time Avengers: Infinity War released.

Black Panther is still playing in some theaters and Avengers: Infinity War is the new mega movie. Up next is Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6. Other upcoming MCU movies are Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2020.
