The star of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Donald Glover has now said that he firmly believes that the villain, Kylo Ren is way better than Darth Vader. The Star Wars franchise is not a stranger to creating world’s best antagonists and Vader is now the greatest in film history. J.J. Abrams pulled it off by creating Kylo Ren, Darth Vader’s grandson. Ben Solo aspires to become as powerful as Vader and this gives his character a very compelling inner-turmoil.
The decision had paid off in since Adam Driver’s performances in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were received positively by the fans. It did not take a long time for Kylo to become the best cinematic villains and he cemented his status as a character who is worthy as a successor of Vader.
While he was at a questionnaire for Noisey, Glover had been asked which villain he liked the most: Darth Maul, Darth Vader, or Kylo Ren:
“Kylo Ren has a really interesting sense of humor. He’s intense, I get his story. So I kind of have to go with Kylo Ren.”
While it might look blasphemous to even suggest that the Vader wannabe is better than the Sith himslef, Glover’s views are not baseless. Kylo Ren is a nuanced figure in the Star Wars films and he is a character that the audiences can relate to. One cannot deny that Vader is a very powerful and intimidating presence but he was more of an Imperial muscle. In A New Hope, he had spent a lot of his screen time as Grand Moff Tarkin’s subordinate.
While Kylo Ren had a complete story arc in The Force Awakens and it highlighted different traits that had been expanded upon in Episode VIII. With Kylo Ren now having killed Supreme Leader Snoke, he is much more evil than Vader was.
Vader did not kill Palpatine until he returned to the light side and he was the Emperor’s second-in-command, but Kylo Ren had evolved into the trilogy’s big baddie and he will stop at almost nothing until his foes are destroyed.
