The epic culmination from Marvel Studios ended with a major cliffhanger, which left audiences silent in every cinema hall.
But the Russo brothers have warned not to expect a tidy resolution when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes return for the sequel.
The directors of Avengers: Infinity War recently revealed that they’re planning a major game changer for their follow-up film, which is still yet to be titled. So far the untitled project is currently referred to as Avengers 4.
Joe and Anthony Russo were asked about the next film at a recent interview, and this is what they had to say:
“It’s hard to talk about because it’s so specific to the ending, what’ he’s talking about,” said Anthony.
“We will say this,” added Joe, “obviously Thanos is a very formidable villain and to beat Thanos will come at a very high cost. We’re committed to stakes, we believe in stakes, and we like to shake up the Marvel Universe. We had a big game-changer at the end of Winter Soldier, had a big game-changer at the end of Civil War, a big game-changer at the end of Infinity War. Obviously, there will be a big game changer at the end of Avengers 4.”
It’s pretty hard for us to accept that this could be the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers 4 releasing next year. Already we’re still reeling from the events that took place in Avengers: Infinity War.
Thanos wiped out half the universe when he snapped his fingers and took out most of the major characters who had tons of potential in Marvel Studios’ future. This includes Spider-Man who was already getting another solo movie and Black Panther which is one of the company’s most successful movies to date. So it seems likely that they’ll obviously return back to the big screen in Avengers 4.
But the biggest mystery surrounding all of this is how the filmmakers would put some of these characters back in play in Avengers 4.
The “high cost” that Joe Russo referred could be a sacrifice of some of the big league superheroes, and with some of the major actors ending their tenure with Marvel Studios, it makes sense that the core Avengers team consisting of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America might not stick around for much longer.
Avengers: Infinity War is now playing in cinemas everywhere.
