It now looks like Mike Myers is prepared to get Austin Powers 4 running according to an all-new interview. All the fans have been waiting for almost 20 years for the follow up to Goldmember and Myers as well as Jay Roach have expressed a whole lot of interest in doing yet another Austin Powers film since. Last year had marked the 20th anniversary of the very first movie, and Mike Myers and Roach had discussed that Austin Powers 4 was a possibility if they found the right angle. It now seems like that they have found this right angle and Myers has revealed that the story is set to be told through the eyes of Dr. Evil.
Mike Myers is now promoting Terminal, which is his first ever live-action role ever since 2009’s Inglorious Basterds. Myers was asked about the possibility of Austin Powers 4:
“I would love to do a movie from Dr. Evil’s perspective. So it would be Dr. Evil 1, Austin Powers 4, is how I would roll… Start the campaign, please. Thank you.”
Telling the entire story of Austin Powers 4 from Dr. Evil’s point of view is a great way to push this franchise forward and also for creating something new. YouTube Red’s Cobra Kai pulled off a similar thing by making a follow up after more than 30 years which resonates with the original audience as well and engages a new generation and focuses on the villain of the first film, Johnny Lawrence.
Mike Myers has remained very positive about this idea and has announced that he was even writing a script in 2008, but nothing has been reported since. Now is a great time for Myers to come back to the characters is he wants to tell the story through the eyes of the villain.
Mike Myers might have opened a huge can of worms that the fans of the franchise would hound him about until it actually happens.
