10 Famous MCU Actors Who Nearly Became DC Stars


Hollywood is an incredible place. One moment you would be an obscure struggler aspiring to get a major break, and the other, you would have movie projects lining up outside your door. MCU has launched a number of actors and revived the careers of some. However, if destiny had played its hand, they might never even have featured in the MCU until now. Have a look at ten famous MCU actors who almost joined DC’s films.

1. Josh Brolin – Batman

Josh Brolin has ensured himself cinematic immortality as the guy who played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. He will also be seen in Deadpool 2 as Cable. However, Brolin was almost about to become another vigilante superhero from DC when Snyder contacted him to be the Batman in BvS. Call it good fortune or bad, that didn’t happen.

2. Tom Hardy – Rick Flag

Venom’s status in terms of MCU is quite confusing. Is he a part of the MCU or a spinoff based elsewhere? Marvel Studios say that Venom doesn’t belong to them. Then why is Tom Holland going to play Peter Parker in that film? In fact, the Venom star Hardy was also approached to play Rick Flag in Suicide Squad, but, he opted out due to scheduling issues.

3. Scarlett Johansson – Lois Lane

Superman movie by Bryan Singer was looking for a gorgeous actress to play Lois Lane. The race included renowned names such as Elisha Cuthbert, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Claire Danes, Jennifer Lopez, Keri Russell and even Beyonce. Scar Jo was also on that list, but, the role eventually went to Kate Bosworth.

4. Elodie Yung

Yung has done famous roles in the past. Before appearing as Elektra in Daredevil on Netflix, she played Jinx in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Yung was also in the race to play Wonder Woman alongside Gal Gadot and Olga Kurylenko. We are glad that Gal Gadot made the cut.

5. Bradley Cooper – Green Lantern

Green Lantern is regarded as one of the worst superhero movie ever, and it saw Ryan Reynolds try the impossible task of making it work. While Ryan looked quite suited to the role, Bradley Cooper had also auditioned for Hal Jordan, and he was reportedly even in the competition to play Lex Luthor in BvS, the role that eventually went to Jesse Eisenberg.

6. Michael B. Jordan – Cyborg

Michael B. Jordan voiced Cyborg in the animated Flashpoint Paradox film. Snyder approached him to play Cyborg in Batman v Superman, and they had a discussion stretching several hours, but, it didn’t work out. Jordan played Erik Killmonger later in Black Panther.

7. Sylvester Stallone – Superman

The success of Rocky in 1977, Stallone rang up Warner Bros. and showed his interest in playing Superman. Richard Donner didn’t agree, but, Stallone was adamant. They talked it out, and Stallone gave up after realizing that Donner was right.

8. Rachel McAdams – Lois Lane

Rachel McAdams was the first choice to play Lois Lane in Man of Steel. Amy Adams later got the role when Rachel wasn’t convinced to play Lois Lane. Rachel was also the top choice to play Pepper Potts in the original Iron-Man (2008), but, that also didn’t materialize. She ultimately joined the Superhero genre when she played Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange.

9. Kurt Russell – Batman

After the Batman Forever tanked big time on the box office, the next Batman film by Joel Schumacher was set to be the one to revive the Batman. Kurt Russell initially agreed to play the role until Val Kilmer snatched it from him.

10. Jamie Alexander – Wonder Woman

You might identify her courtesy her role of Lady Sif in Thor films. Jamie Alexander had been earlier approached by DC Films to play Wonder  Woman, but, she believed the role to be below her, and let it go. Gal Gadot then took up the role, and the rest is history.
