Avengers: Infinity War was the biggest movie Marvel has ever produced, and was the culmination of every Marvel movie ever made in the last ten years. The movie ends on a cliffhanger that none of us could ever recover from. The movie has impressed even the harshest MCU critics who always complained that Marvel films weren’t deep or dark enough.
Thanos finally made his appearance as the big baddie of the MCU and was teased in post credit cameos for so many years to make him feel that his wrath was totally worth it. He could be known as the Darth Vader of the MCU. He certainly is the best MCU villain. He was menacing right from the start and came across as the most terrifying adversary that Avengers had ever faced and even together with Guardians they failed to stop him.
The reason the Avengers couldn’t beat him was because he was a genius cosmic supervillain who knew what he was doing and why. His motivations were justified in his own mind, and he believed himself to be the hero of his own story. He believed the universe owed him a great favour as he was the only one who could determine how the universe could exist harmoniously.
The movie took place on 6 Different Planets on which Thanos went back and forth in search of the Infinity Stones so that he could fulfil his purpose of wiping out half the entire Galaxy and bring balance to the lives of the ones left alive. With all six stones assembled in the gauntlet, all he had to do was snap his fingers.
The Avengers almost stopped Thanos from his mission thrice, but with Thanos’ intelligence and already having half of the Stones; the odds were against the Avengers. In the end Thanos succeeded in his mission and was last seen at the end of the movie looking at a nice sunrise from a distance and feeling contented.
But there was one time where the Avengers and the Guardians were really able to take the Gauntlet away from the Mad Titan and they would have totally won if they would have been successful.
That incident took place on the planet Titan where Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis & Nebula were plotting to take the gauntlet away from him. After retrieving the Soul Stone from Vormir, he returned to his home planet to acquire the Time Stone which was in the possession of Doctor Strange.
Thanos’ arrival resulted in a fierce battle between him and the Avengers-Guardians. The heroes were prepared and were able to outsmart the cosmic warlord by having Mantis put him to sleep as the others were able to subdue him and pull out his glove.
They would have been successful in removing the Gauntlet from his hand, until Thanos revealed that he had killed Gamora which upset Star-Lord who impulsively attacked Thanos out of anger, thereby breaking the hold Mantis had on him.
This resulted in Thanos overpowering the Avengers and taking the Time Stone from Dr Strange. This is one reason why fans are blaming Star Lord for screwing things up for the Avengers. But some other fans are blaming Loki for the fate of the universe.
The immediate thing that led to the end of the world was him giving the Tesseract from Asgard to Thanos. The Tesseract which contained the Space Stone might have been destroyed or lost somewhere in the cosmos. If he had told his brother Thor about it, he would have been better prepared for the attack by Thanos. So, you could actually call Loki to actually be the main culprit for wiping out half the universe.
Still, Hiddleston is expected to be back as Loki in Avengers 4, but possibly through time travel events. There is no way that he is alive now as Thanos crushed him to death right in front of Thor. This is the end of his story and there are no resurrections this time.
