This month is historic to say the least and considering the situation is America many people are celebrating the Black History more extensively and expressively to say the least. Many businesses have come forward to support and promote diversity and to honour them who have spent their lives working for that.
OneUnited Bank is one of the most reputable institutions of this country. They also have a deep attachment to this month as they are one of the oldest and largest African-American owned banks in the country.
It was but obvious that they would do something to commemorate this event, and they did too. But it didn’t really feel how we thought it would. They issued cards with the image of legendary Harriet Tubman. Though an iconic figure in the community the problem was that she was seen doing what many considered a Wakandan salute, a salute from MCU’s Black Panther.
Tubman is very much admired and respected in her community because of her work against slavery, act of saving slaves through an underground path and advocating of woman’s voting right. She was also an armed scout for Union Army.
In the salute you put your arms in an x position and it is right over left and after seeing the image I could see the resembelance.
Though people are now more open to pop culture, but considering the brevity of Harriet’s personality, it is understandable why people are mad. You don’t put down culture no matter what.
Omg this is legitimately hilarious I had to screenshot it before it’s deleted.
A debit card with Harriet Tubman throwing up the Wakanda salute 😭😭😭😭😭
I thought for sure this was just a brand doing “brand things,” but even a “Black-owned” bank has to know this is bad, right? pic.twitter.com/mQqhq9IJ5G

OneUnited Bank is offering the cards only in 2020 and whoever purchases the card this year could get new cards with the design when they decide to replace their current one.
Teri Williams, President and COO of OneUnited said that this image is a way of putting Tubman in a global payment device as well as paving the way to have her image on $20 bill.
DO YOU THINK HARRIET TUBMAN WAS WALKING AROUND SALUTING WAKANDA WHILE SHE WAS TAKING SLAVES???? TO FREEDOM? https://t.co/1yhWavQy0m

I'm laughing so hard at them having Ms. Harriet Tubman giving the Wakanda salute. Someone in the executive offices thought they had a sure fire winner with that. Lord forgive me
