Friends will always have a special place in pop culture. The testament of how good something is judged by how it survives the tides of time and there is no show that has resonated with as many people as Friends has. People have just kept on falling in love with it. People still look for their Monica, Chandler, Ross, Rachel, Joey and Phoebe in their circle.

All these character were as unique as possible. You could relate to them in a way you couldn’t to the people actually around you. The show ran on NBC for 10 years and was a mega hit for them but in actuality their legacy was established by how much adored it remained after so many years.

A huge part of its resilient popularity has been its availability on Netflix which made people love it even more. A new generation discovered the show because of this. Each and every member of the show has been hounded by questions about a revival or sequel for many years. And every time they have answered negatively. One of the major reasons behind it being that the show would not be suited for this era of mobile phones and technology as it essentially was about six friends talking to each other.

But seems like we might actually be getting it as Variety recently reported that an unscripted reunion is in development that would stream on HBO Max. All the six main cast members are slated to return and would actually make a huge payday of 2.5 million dollars each. The budget of the entire show is reported to be 20 million dollars. It will also feature the return of original creators David Crane and Mara Kauffman.  It will be shot in the famous Friends soundstage, Stage 24 on Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank.

Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, and truTV was quoted saying,

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library,” Reilly said. “I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real-time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”
