Even though it had been confirmed that LandoCalrissian is pansexual and it had surprised the fans, Solo: A Star Wars Story’s star, Donald Glover says that it makes sense.
While making an appearance on SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio with Alden Ehrenreich, Paul Bettany and Emilia Clarke, Glover had been asked about the comments by Jonathan Kasdan about the “fluidity” of the character’s sexuality.
“How can you not be pansexual in space?” Glover had replied.
“There are so many things to have sex with. I didn’t think that was that weird. Yeah, he’s coming on to everybody. I feel like if you’re in space it’s kind of like, the door is open! It’s like, [not] only guys or girls – no, it’s anything. This thing is literally a blob. Are you a man or a woman? Like, who cares? Have a good time out here.”
In spite of a small minor role across Star Wars’ history, Lando has now become a fan favorite because of his expanded presence in the comic books and novels and also, the animated Star Wars Rebels.
Solo might not be the last that the fans actually see of Glover as the character of Lando. Lucasfilm’s President, Kathleen Kennedy had planted an idea of a Lando spinoff film.
As for his very first debut as Lando, Glover had explained how the original actor, Billy Dee Williams had given him advice regarding how to play this character.
Directed by Ron Howard from a script by Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan, Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as LandoCalrissian, Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra and JoonasSuotamo as Chewbacca. They are joined by Thandie Newton as Val, Phoebe Waller-Bridge L3-37, Paul Bettany as Dryden Vos, and Woody Harrelson as Tobias Beckett. The film opens Friday nationwide.
