The upcoming season three of Daredevil is looking set to be the best season of the series so far, considering the various elements which are being thrown into the mix. Marvel fans have been excited about Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio)’s return to the series, and that’s why we expect them to go crazy about the rumor related to the Daredevil Season 3 debut of Bullseye into the MCU!
An anonymous Redditor“defenders throwaway,” who according to MCU Exchange, has been a source of some mighty spoilers for The Punisher and Defenders on Netflix, has shared this rumor. This is what that Reddit user claims to be taking place in Daredevil Season 3, related to Bullseye:
- “currently working on the first episodes of DD3. It starts really slow and introduces too many new characters. the plot could go either way, hard to say at this point. But they do a whole episode about Bullseye’s background, and I think its cinematically the best episode out of all of Marvel shows so far. Kingpin gets all the files and tapes about Bullseye and he “walks” through bullseyes memories to look at his life. it is fantastic.”
- “DD3 is a bit slow and convoluted. It really picks up the pace in the middle, and I think the end of the season might turn out great. Bullseye is legit scary. Nobody wears their costume from the comics. DD is more of the same, but again, anything involving Bullseye is a standout. They really nail the fact that he’s deadly from afar.”
- “can’t speak to any deaths, but they are setting up a big fight in a church…”
Another piece of this mystery has been introduced by That Hashtag Show. In the fall last year, an announcement was made about Wilson Bethel (Heart of Dixie) being cast in a “pivotal role” in Daredevil Season 3. Bethel is playing the role of an FBI agent, “who will play a critical role in the conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, better known as Daredevil and Kingpin respectively.” Judging by that character detail, Marvel fans believed that Bethel would play the comic book villain Sin-Eater. However, That Hashtag Show claims that Bethel is playing Bullseye! If that be true, then Marvel TV must be appreciated for successfully keeping the character hidden in plain sight. Have a look at the original casting detail for the character played by Bethel.
“28-35, 5’9-6’1, Open ethnicity. An athletic but socially awkward FBI Agent needs structure and rules to suppress the darkness inside himself. Athletic with medium build, responsible and resourceful, hair-trigger temper. SERIES REGULAR”
Hang on! Read that line about “hair-trigger temper” again, doesn’t it make sense in the context of Bullseye?
There are a number of origin stories for Bullseye in Marvel Comics, generally showing a dysfunctional family life, a nasty father, and potential patricide. There is a version which showed him hired by the NSA to be used as an assassin, but, he later went rogue and tried exploiting his international connections to make a career as a drug dealer. Taking into account the kind of changes to the character’s origins (especially the bad guys) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this might be a highly detailed evaluation of Bullseye as a character of double tendencies, overpowering his darkness using law and order, but, also becoming victim to it as a murderer. Such a villainous narrative would nicely complement the iconic Daredevil “Born Again” narrative, that the season 3 is likely to be based on. That story also dwells upon the contrasting dual persona of Matt Murdock, as a loyal Catholic who protects law and order, and also plays the devil in a vigilante mission with no regard to the law.
Even more important, the rumored major fight sequence inside a church is something that will undergo closer scrutiny by Marvel fans. The fact is, the description matches the highly appreciated Kevin Smith’s “Guardian Devil” narrative, which showed a huge battle between Daredevil and Bullseye in the church where Matt Murdock’s mother Maggie resides, and the fight ends with Karen Page jumping in the path of a projectile which Bullseye tried to use to kill Daredevil, shattering Matt and leaving him in mourning, seeking his mother’s support.
In Daredevil Season 3, Joanne Whalley will play Maggie Murdock, and Deborah Ann Woll’s character Karen Page is set to get an important story arc which might be her last as well. Apparently, everything is in place to feature the biggest elements of “Born Again” and “Guardian Devil” as a mighty viewing experience.
For now, there is no premiere date announced for Daredevil Season 3. Luke Cage Season 2 lands on Netflix on June 15th, whereas Iron Fist’s second season, is expected later in the year.
