The Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation has been coming to a close, and the studio has now confirmed a few movies which are on the studio’s slate including the Coming to America 2 which will star Eddie Murphy and will be called Coming 2 America. Other confirmed projects are Dungeons & Dragons, World War Z 2, Gemini Man, Top Gun 2, Terminator 6, Sonic the Hedgehog, What Men Want and Micronauts. This is what Paramount’s Jim Gianapoulos had said,

“It’s no secret we’ve had some difficult years at the box office. We’re laying the foundation…to deliver to you films for every possible audience for years to come.”

We had heard about Coming 2 America last March, when Eddie Murphy’s Twitter account had sent out a tweet which indicated Coming to America 2 would be happening. The actor’s tweet had an image photo of the co-star, Vanessa Bell Calloway, who had played Princess Imani in its sequel.

It was then confirmed that a Coming 2 America sequel was happening and Paramount would bring back writers, David Sheffield and Barry Blaustein to work on the script. This report had revealed that Kenya Barris was brought on to rewrite even though it was not known if Barris would be re-working Blaustein and Sheffield’s draft.

Coming To America had released in 1988. This story had followed Prince Akeem, who learns that he had a bride who is chosen for him, Imani. He has never met her, and he makes a plan and tells his father that he wants to “sow his royal oats” in America. He then sets off on a trip with a servant, Semmi. This trip is a ruse with Akeem telling Semmi that he wants to find his bride over there and he falls in love with Lisa McDowell (Shari Headley).

Coming to America had earned $128.1 million during the box office run in 1988.
