There is no doubt that the MCU is the biggest Hollywood franchise these days. It pioneered the concept of a shared Universe which so far no other studio has successfully followed. The biggest MCU movie Avengers: Infinity War released last week, and it started a grand conclusion of a phase of the franchise.
Avengers: Infinity War had the biggest opening ever as it earned $630 million at the Global box office within the first three days. It went on to become the highest grossing film in the opening weekend at the US Box office overtaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens and earning $250 million. It will help MCU sail past $ 15 billion mark.
The powerhouse that MCU has become, it has a lot of underdevelopment projects featuring some new superheroes which will debut on the big screen. Below are some of the Marvel superheroes scheduled to make a debut in MCU Phase 4.
While the other heroes expected to debut are all aliens, but, this is one Earthborn character. He is a favorite of James Gunn, but, his pre-occupation with the Guardians doesn’t leave him with time for Moon Knight. Kevin Feige said that there are plans in place for Moon Knight but, they might materialize, “five years from now, ten years from now, 15 years from now.”
Marc Spector/Moon Knight was a mercenary to start with, but he became a hero after being exposed to the magic of Egyptian Moon god, Khonshu. He is a vigilante with superhuman strength, speed, and agility, but, the scope of his powers is proportionate to the lunar phases. He has multiple personality disorder and finds it tough to separate reality from imagination.
It is apparent that the MCU Phase 4 will be much more cosmic in theme and we will get various new characters irrespective of the return of the Fantastic Four. Among the various cosmic characters owned by Marvel, the biggest is The Eternals, who happen to be an evolutionary stream of humans created ages ago by the Celestials. This is what Kevin Feige said about this:
“‘Eternals is one of many, many, many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about.”
Therefore, another 5-6 years from now, we might see them materialize. It might carry forward the theme glimpsed in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Ego was the first one who got featured, and Eternals might be next.
Adam Warlock is the most immediate of the under-development characters. He was a crucial factor in the Infinity Gauntlet comic books but isn’t a part of the movie based on those comics. James Gunn has confirmed that the character won’t be seen in Avengers 4 either and will debut only in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
According to Kevin Feige, Nova is a character with “immediate potential” to be a part of the next phase of MCU. The Nova Corps featured in original Guardians of the Galaxy film, and Avengers: Infinity War revealed that Thanos wrecked Xandar to grab the Power Gem. Therefore, we already have some kind of origin story for Nova.
The comic books have two versions of the character by the name of Sam Alexander and Richard Rider. The latter has been mentioned by James Gunn, but, we might see both of them featured in a movie as they both have the power of the Nova Force which they use to destroy their enemies.
