In last year’s Thor: Ragnarok, we saw the God of Thunder become transformed after his support system, his home turf was all destroyed, and he was thrown into unfamiliar territory. In one single blow, Thor lost his father, his mighty weapon, his hair, one eye and his home planet, but, still, the movie showed how he had evolved courtesy his stint on Earth. Above all, Thor: Ragnarok also introduced a Thor who was truly the God of Thunder.

Most of the fans are of the opinion that the Taika Waititi directed movie was the best  Thor film until Avengers: Infinity War. The much awaited mega movie from Marvel Cinematic Universe has turned out to be everything that the fans could have wished for. The film is exciting and funny, full of action and heartbreak. This is indeed a film which manages to handle the huge cast well and does well to show interactions between new and entertaining characters, and also deep emotions.

All the characters get their moments, whether it is Mantis or Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch or Doctor Strange, but, none shone as well as Thor.

Avengers: Infinity War begins right where the mid-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok left us, and the ship of the new Asgardian ruler was attacked, ensuring that the bad times for the God of Thunder only became worse. After his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), his best friend Heimdall (Idris Elba), and most of his faithful people died, Thor somehow manages to escape alive from his exploding ship. The Guardians of the Galaxy find him drifting in the space. That’s when Thor comes up with a plan which sees him undertake a cosmic trip with Rocket Raccoon and Groot in an endeavor to forge a new weapon in Nidavellir which could kill Thanos.

Hemsworth has done a tremendous job of portraying Thor’s suffering. He convinces the audience to feel the depth of every word spoken by him. Whenever he tries to crack a joke despite all that pain, it breaks your heart. His emotions are powerful, and those emotions are displayed by Thor throughout the movie, leading to some stunning character moments. In the realm of the Dwarfs, the Asgardian king almost perishes when he opened the doors to let the fires of the forge to burn again.

He gets a new eye (surprise!), thanks to Rocket Raccoon’s obsession of collecting the artificial body parts of others, a new battle ax which can invoke lightning and the Bifrost as well as new allies. Thor makes a grand entry into the battle of Wakanda. He showcases himself as the mighty hero that he was always supposed to be. He slaughters the Black Order’s forces of Outriders easily. At the battle where the other Avengers were struggling, Thor charges as a solitary cavalry and turns the tables.

In fact, Thor is so powerful, and his new axStormbreaker is so deadly that it overwhelms even Thanos. It breaches the cosmic power of the Infinity Gauntlet and pierces through Mad Titan’s chest. Yes, for a moment Thor beats Thanos, but, the problem was that before dying the villain managed to snap his fingers, and that’s all he needed to do.

The Avengers might have lost in the battle with Thanos, but, Thor turned out to be the most powerful Avenger. He single-handedly turned the tide in the battle of Wakanda and nearly killed Thanos. Courtesy the power of the Infinity, Thanos ran away, but, we are hopeful of there being a round two between Thor and Thanos. We just hope that this time he would hurl the ax at the Mad Titan’s head.

Directed by the Russo Brothers, Avengers: Infinity War is presently running in theaters and it stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L.
