Netflix has sort of created a phenomenon in pop culture. A lot of things are different in this era compared to the previous ones. We have more content and honestly fans have more of a voice. Nobody will ever understand the out roar that happened when Freaks and Geeks was cancelled. Because there was no way for anyone to understand it. The social media did not reach its full bloom and quite honestly the networks were quite high nosed. All they cared about was Nielsen ratings. If today was then, there was no way in hell The Good Place runs for 4 seasons.
But today the viewership has expanded to the entire world and it has happened because of the global factor Netflix has introduced and the flexibility it has given the audience. You can watch something at 3 am and it will still matter. Netflix has also invested a lot in its brand bringing a host of talented creators under its umbrella starting from The Obamas, Shonda Rhimes and Adam Sandler. All these three are so different with what they deliver but still exist together under Netflix.
And seems like Netflix’s net at least on Adam has paid off as the movies he has till now created and produced under his Happy Madison production banner have been really successful. With Murder Mystery starring Sandler and Jennifer Aniston being the most watched movie of Netflix in the past year. This success has been so overwhelming that Adam’s contract has been extended by Netflix.
“Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can’t get enough of him,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer. “They love his stories and his humour, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.”
He started his collaboration with Netflix in 2015 through Ridiculous 6 which was followed by The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Week Of, and Murder Mystery. Hubie Halloween will be released later this year and Sandler will star in the film alongside Kevin James, Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, Rob Schneider, Kenan Thompson, Steve Buscemi, Michael Chiklis, Tim Meadows, Noah Schnapp, Paris Berelc, China Anne McClain, and Shaquille O’Neal. Sander also released his standup special 100% Fresh on Netflix.
