Right from the time of the film’s release, she has been the target of online bullies who hated the Rian Johnson-helmed movie or the character of Rose Tico played by her. However, Hamill retorted strongly, defending someone he has earlier called a “second daughter.” “What’s not to love? #GetALifeNerds,” he posted along with a photo of them in a hug.
The harassment has been so far reaching that some of the bullies went on to make nasty and racist edits to her page on Wookieepedia. This also made The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson to express his unhappiness about the incident.
Responding to a tweet which supported Tran’s harassment, Johnson clarified that such actions were indefensible and to put up an argument regarding such behavior was nonsense. “Done with this disingenuous bullshit,” the filmmaker tweeted. “You know the difference between not liking a movie and hatefully harassing a woman so bad she has to get off social media. And you know which of those two we’re talking about here.”
