Addressing to a crowd at Motor City Comic Con,Amell said that he would sport the iconic Oliver Queen goatee in the next season of Arrow.
“Just because you’ve been polite, and just because everyone has been so nice to me today, I can break some news for you and let you know that in Season Seven I am going to debut the goatee,” Amell said.
However, Amell cautioned that the goatee might not be a permanent addition, and suggested that it would be more of a limited time addition instead of a character redesign. He also clarified that Green Arrow’s Robin Hood wouldn’t be there.
“I can’t promise that I’m going to keep [the goatee] forever,” he said. “I can definitely promise that I’m not going to wear the stupid hat.”
Amell explained that the thought came up during the discussion about altering Green Arrow’s costume in the wake of the revelation of Oliver Queen’s secret identity.
“We’ve actually been thinking a lot, assuming that Ollie gets out of prison if he suits back up as the Green Arrow, what does that costume look like?”Amell said. “Because there’s no more secret identity. That cat is out of the bag. Not that it was that secret before, but we will see.”
Earlier, Amell was unwilling to sport the facial hair of Oliver Queen as seen in the comics, but, he ultimately promised fans that the goatee would be seen on screen before the end of the series.
“I promise you, before the series – not season, series – ends, we will have at least one shot with the iconic goatee,” Amell revealed.
Apparently, fans are now set to get that one shot, and probably more when Arrow comes back this fall.
Arrow has got a Season Seven renewal alongside other DC Comics-based shows on The CW – Supergirl, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It also means that there is a crossover event story in the works, and this year’s crossover will be Batwoman’s DC Comics TV universe debut.
